Beyerdynamic DT880 Pro Premium Headphone (250 Ohms) Review
I’m glad you landed here for my Beyerdynamic DT880 Headphone review.
We’ve read the rave reviews on the DT880. By “rave,” we mean that around 90% of audiophiles who have had the pleasure, and are still experiencing the pleasure, of listening to music and movie sound effects with their headphones are highly satisfied with it. In fact, some aren’t just highly satisfied; they are perfectly satisfied, calling this headphone model the best one there is on the market.

Who Would Buy The DT880?
The DT880 is for the audiophile who, aside from wanting a reasonably-priced and sleek-looking headphone, also loves listening to airy music, like classical, acoustic and jazz. It may not be for the heavy metal and rock fan because its bass, although full, is more neutral
and less strong than that of other Beyerdynamic models. It’s for the casual listener who wants to use it with his home theatre system and sound amplifiers. But casual doesn’t mean lower demand for quality. High quality sound – clear, high-fidelity and high-resolution – is exactly what a user can expect from these headphones.
The DT880 user has a discerning personality and wants class, quality, comfort and mechanical robustness in a headphone.

Design (Ear-cup)
Aside from being a “pure and refined” beauty, the DT880 has a design that is extremely sturdy and built to last, with a semi-open, over-the-ear construction. By semi-open, we mean that, unlike open headphones, external sounds don’t leak in. But unlike closed headphones, a semi-open headphone isn’t completely isolated. The cup isn’t completely closed, which, as one headphone enthusiast pointed out, gives the DT880 the best of
both worlds. And speaking of cups, the headphone has cups that have an attractive, round architecture.
Comfort
With a headband that’s adjustable and padded, the DT880 offers a perfect fit, thus making even long-listening comfortable. The velour ear pads are soft and thus, do not hurt the ears. A user said that he initially thought that the headphones would be heavy and warm to
the touch, but he was proven wrong when he tried it on.
Performance
What we, as well as most users of the DT880, love about this headphone is the quality of its performance. Soundreproduction is detailed, but at the same time, the sound is pleasant and relaxed. That’s why we mentioned earlier that this model is for the casual
user. Where open headphones fail, the DT880, being semi-open, drowns out external noise almost completely. Enough isolation is the key phrase, and this is one regard in which the DT880 wins.
We feel that it’s important to comment on the DT880′s bass. Don’t mistake its lack of a deep bass sound with a poor-quality bass sound. They are certainly not the same. Some have mistakenly assumed that the DT880′s bass wouldn’t be strong, only to be pleasantly surprised at its clarity and definition. In an acoustic bass, every tone, every note, can be
vividly heard and deeply enjoyed. And because the DT880 doesn’t produce a deep bass sound ideal for metal and rock music, the bass produced, albeit rich, is never harsh.

Pros & Cons
Pros: The DT880 boasts of a semi-open design, wired transmission, a frequency response of 5 Hz to 35 kHz, a sound level of 96 dB, three-dimensional acoustics, and comfort afforded by its soft ear pads and padded headband.
This particular headphone model is also what is called a higher-impedance headphone, which means that it delivers a lower volume of sound than a lower-impedance headphone delivers at the same input level, consequently negating the need for heavy drivers. This is tech speak, we know, so we’ll put it in simpler terms: The sound the DT880 delivers
has more clarity than a lower-impedance headphone’s sound.
Cons: There are some who yearn for a stronger bass sound from the DT880, but, like the majority, we ourselves don’t have a problem with it. What we have noticed is that, since the pads of the DT880 are velour, we have to make sure they stay clean. As another user said, leather pads would have been better.

Value for Money
In our opinion, the DT880 is a reasonably-priced headphone. There are some, though, who find it expensive. But what these same users have also said is that even though its price is not so cheap, they would still buy the DT880 again if given the opportunity. So yes,
we will have to agree with them and say that the DT880 is definitely worth its price in gold.
Conclusion
We’re pretty sure you know by now that we love and highly recommend the DT880. In our opinion, it’s almost perfect: attractive, classy and comfortable design, semi-open cups that lend enough isolation, pleasant and relaxed sound, and a bass that’s rich and clear but isn’t harsh.
